His own preferred translations, at times, "a god" at Luke for instance are thought provoking. This is an excellent book not least because it is written for the public who have an interest in the subject of accuracy and bias in English Bible translations. It is paramount that theological biases of our times and held by scholars that translate the Bible into our tongue do not distort the true meaning of the Greek and produce inaccurate renderings.

You might not agree with everything he writes he has his own biases as he freely admits but his is not only an honest evaluation but one free of anachronistic theological presumptions. Is this unique among works of this ilk we ask? Highly recommended. But he does accord it, overall, greater accuracy above other prominent respected scholarly translations such as The New Revised Standard Version and the New International Version. It IS an excellent book for Jehovahs Witnesses.

It is also, perhaps even more so, for those who are not. We are very thankful to Jason BeDuhn as we are with all those authors whose books we recommend for taking the time amd making the effort to produce such a thought provoking and, to use his word, "challenging" work. They are not and his findings show otherwise. He also offers why this may be in the chapter entitled "A Final Word. If you decide to obtain a copy for yourself you will no doubt do likewise. Truth in Translation: Accuracy and Bias in English Translations of the New Testament

This work all needed to be complete before the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures could be published. I read the book of Tobit not included in the Protestant Bibles not long ago and at least now have an understanding of where the Pharasees got that woman with seven husbands ressurrection question from to ask Jesus. To complicate translation further, the word pneuma has a number of meanings. Having concluded that the NWT is one of the most accurate English translations of the New Testament currently available, I would be remiss if I did not mention one peculiarity of this translation that by most conventions of translation would be considered an inaccuracy, however little this inaccuracy changes the meaning of most of the verses where it appears. So in John 1: At the very least, a translator could bias the translation toward one possibility while acknowledging the second in a footnote. For the doctrines that Protestantism inherited to be considered true, they had to be found in the Bible. Truth in Translation : Jason David BeDuhn : That is true even when that clear statement challenges my personal theology.

Megar Transltaion course, not all of us will agree with every illustration you used. The one worshiping is doing obeisance while at the same time expressing recognition of the divine. If BeDuhn does not require this lack of precision in the translation of the word proskuneohe has abandoned his statement that the Bible authors must be allowed to speak today. To be clear, this is not a simple read. They are just the two least flawed of the nine; they are not flaw-free.
